Bollywood romance is about to take an aggressive leap forward with Dhadak 2, the highly anticipated sequel to Dhadak (2018). This time, the movie is the hot-headed pairing of Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, against the landscape of love, caste prejudice, and an unrelenting battle for acceptance. Directed by Shazia Iqbal and produced by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, the movie is poised to untangle a high-stakes emotional rollercoaster.
A Society-Challenging Love
Central to Dhadak 2 is the tragic love affair of Vidhi (Triptii Dimri) and Nilesh (Siddhant Chaturvedi), two lovers united by love but separated by caste. Society, as predictably vicious, does not approve of their relationship and compels them into a bitter struggle to survive.
It was inspired by Mari Selvaraj’s 2018 Tamil movie Pariyerum Perumal, Dhadak 2 doesn’t go out of its way in presenting the entrenched prejudices which still bedevil our world today. How aptly was it said by producer Karan Johar, that “If you ever have to choose between dying and fighting… choose to fight.”
First Look: A Romance Forged in Fire
On May 26, Dharma Productions unveiled the first posters for Dhadak 2, giving audiences a glimpse into its emotionally charged universe. The visuals tell a story of resistance, passion, and survival:
Siddhant’s poster shows him holding Triptii close, his eyes burning with defiance as he shields her from an unforgiving world. Triptii’s close-up poster reveals a deep tenderness, capturing her character’s unwavering devotion despite the looming threats.
The Route to Release: CBFC's Edits and Delays
While originally scheduled for a November 2024 release, Dhadak 2 ran into several obstructions, mostly owing to certification issues. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) objected to 16 elements of the film, leading to important edits: Caste-based abuses like “Chamar” and “Bhangi” were toned down and replaced with more acceptable expressions.
Politically contentious language on 3,000 years of backlog was rephrased to steer clear of direct references to Kanshi Ram. Speeches touching on religion and power structures were revised to make them culture-neutral. Following required revisions, the CBFC eventually issued a U/A certificate, allowing for an August 1, 2025 theatrical release.
Dhadak vs. Dhadak 2: What's Different?
While Dhadak(2018), featuring Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter, was a Marathi film remake of Sairat, Dhadak 2 has its own direction to take. While the previous one stuck mainly to love and tragedy, the sequel goes much deeper into the social and political realities of contemporary India. The movie is about a rawer, more real picture of love—where emotions not just fall but fought for.
Triptii Dimri & Siddhant Chaturvedi: The Ideal Duo
This is the first time that Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi, known for their dramatic, heartfelt performances:
Triptii, who was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (2024), has established herself as a force of elegance and ferocity.
Siddhant, having recently appeared in Yudhra (2024), adds a rugged natural charm and fiery energy to his performances.
Final Thoughts: A Film That Promises to Ignite Change
With Dhadak 2, Bollywood is embracing narratives that matter—narratives that defy societal norms yet keep viewers well invested in the romance. If the posters are anything to go by, Triptii and Siddhant’s chemistry is bound to set the screen on fire. By August 1, 2025, everyone’s attention will be on Dhadak 2—a romance that doesn’t merely dream but also dares to battle.
