Actor-politician Kangana Ranaut recently shared her candid views on the Bollywood celebrities and their social gatherings. Talking to Raj Shamani on his podcast recently, Kangana Ranaut did not mince words. Let’s get into her perspective and see what makes her call Bollywood parties more like “trauma” than a glamorous affair.

Bollywood's Shallow Scene
Kangana Ranaut doesn’t hide her ire for that glitzy world. In fact, according to her, hobnobbing with Bollywood is not her cup of tea. She firmly told us, “I am not the Bollywood type of person; I can’t be friends with Bollywood people for sure.” Her reasons? Well, she believes most of them are “full of themselves,” “stupid,” and “dumb.” To Kangana, they resemble “grasshoppers”—blank and devoid of meaningful conversations. Their life, when not shooting, is a little banal: wake up, workout, sleep, gym, and repeat. A life centered around protein shakes and inane things.
The Trauma of Bollywood Parties
According to Kangana, attending a party in Bollywood is equivalent to an ordeal. She made a pastiche of their conversations on branded bags, cars, diets, and relationship gossip—really, everything, which for her, was comically banal. She challenged anyone to find a decent person in Bollywood who can discuss topics beyond material possessions. In her words, “A Bollywood party for me is like trauma.” Basically, there is no substance, intellect, or art in such high-profile events. Everything is about dim-witted chatter and superficiality.

The Grasshopper Routine
Kangana details the daily routine of an average star that will leave one in splits but is also somewhat revealing. Stars do not shoot every day; and when they are not doing so, they follow a set pattern of getting up, hitting the gym, sleeping, going to the gym, and then sleeping again or watching TV. She likens them to “grasshoppers”—blank and bereft of engagement with anything worthwhile. Their conversations, she said, revolved around clothes and accessories and other such trite things. For Kangana, relating to such people was out of the question.
Emergency: Kangana's Next Film

As some of Kangana Ranaut’s juicy confessions are being made known, she is preparing herself for her next venture, “Emergency.” In it, the girl not only gets the central role of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi but also directs the movie herself. The setting is India’s chaotic political scene in the backdrop of the 1975 emergency; therefore, the film is bound to be a potent and at the time controversial depiction of events of great magnitude. Starring the likes of Anupam Kher, Mahima Chaudhary, Milind Soman, Shreyas Talpade, Vishak Nair, and late Satish Kaushik in prominent roles, “Emergency” is slated to land in theatres on September 6, 2024. It is an out-and-out departure from anything seen at a Bollywood party, going serious about the historical moments.
In a nutshell, Kangana Ranaut’s take on Bollywood parties, irrepressible as it gets, gives everyone a taste of the shallowness in business. Though this is not to everyone’s tastes, her candidness is definitely something more fresh compared.
