The highly anticipated third part of the Hera Pheri series has surprisingly become a courtroom drama, with experienced actor Paresh Rawal‘s sudden withdrawal from the movie initiating legal action by Akshay Kumar. What began as a comedic return of Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal has gone awry into a controversy of contracts, monetary damages, and emotional distress.

Paresh Rawal's Sudden Exit – A Shock to Fans

Paresh Rawal, who is famous for his classic roles of Baburao Ganpatrao Apte in Hera Pheri (2000) and Phir Hera Pheri (2006), shook fans to the core when word spread that he walked out of Hera Pheri 3. Fans had all been waiting for the three to reunite, more so following reports that the actors had already filmed a teaser.
But Rawal’s withdrawal surprised everyone, and it left producers, co-stars, and fans uncertain. His withdrawal allegedly scattered shooting schedules and budget planning, causing consequential repercussions.

Akshay Kumar's Legal Response

Now that Akshay Kumar is producer of Hera Pheri 3, his legal team did not lose time in reacting to Rawal’s unexpected exit. “The cast and crew had spent considerable amount of money on casting, people, logistics, and even shooting a trailer,” said Pooja Tidke, Joint Managing Partner, Parinam Law Associate.
Tidke stressed that Rawal had himself earlier assured his entry into the film and contracts were signed. She also disclosed that three-and-a-half minutes of the film had already been captured before Rawal made the official announcement about leaving it. Under these conditions, Kumar’s team issued Kumar a legal notice, citing financial and reputational loss.

Paresh Rawal's Defense – His "Rightful Termination"

Rawal retorted on X (formerly Twitter), assuring all that his lawyer, Ameet Naik, had made an “appropriate response” clarifying his “rightful termination and exit.” He reiterated that after the concerned parties had read his response, everything would be okay.
Although specifics about his legal grounds are not available, his message indicates assurance that he had a right to leave.

Priyadarshan and Suniel Shetty React to Rawal's Exit

Director Priyadarshan, who directed the original Hera Pheri film, did not hesitate to reveal his own disappointment over Rawal leaving. Interviewing with Mid-day, he remembered Akshay Kumar’s tearful response, stating, “Akshay had tears in his eyes when he asked me, ‘Priyan, why is Paresh doing this to us?’
Priyadarshan himself accepted that Kumar had purchased the rights of the Hera Pheri franchise on the basis of mutual faith between the actors and that Kumar should not lose money just because Rawal walked out on the project.
Likewise, Suniel Shetty also expressed similar apprehensions, declaring that Hera Pheri 3 would not be possible without Baburao, Rawal’s iconic character. His response highlighted the emotional value and long-established bond between the three actors and their characters in the franchise.

What Happens Next?

Although Paresh Rawal has reassured that everything will be settled soon, the legal issues still keep casting a shadow over the making of Hera Pheri 3. His exit has indeed affected the shoot schedule, added to the financial burden, and left the audience wondering if the movie can proceed without the iconic Baburao.
The crew now needs to make a very important decision—whether to replace Rawal or seek a peaceful resolution that will let him come back. Fans are all waiting for an official announcement that will spell out what happens to Hera Pheri 3.

Final Thoughts – The Uncertain Future of Hera Pheri 3

What was meant to be a triumphant reunion has instead become a bitter legal battle. Akshay Kumar, being the producer, is steering the crisis, while Paresh Rawal insists that his departure was justified. The way forward is far from certain, but one thing is certain—the audience’s affection for Hera Pheri is more than compensation for courtroom wrangling, and fans hope the franchise will go back to its laugh-filled origins and not to courtroom anarchy. Will Baburao return, or is this really the end of an era? Only time will tell.
