Anurag Basu’s Epic Dream Project: Will Aamir Khan Become the Kishore Kumar?

Anurag Basu has caused some ripples in the film world by announcing a Kishore Kumar biopic. Taking the character of the legend will be none other than Aamir Khan, who, being interested in Basu’s script, has now shown interest in the project. However, fans are wondering whether the superstar should have taken the role as it will then be a rather hectic schedule, and currently, the biopics are struggling at the box office.

Aamir’s Busy Film Calendar

Aamir Khan has too many upcoming projects for his hands to keep up, and this is why it is getting difficult for him to commit to yet another venture. He is at the moment finishing off Sitaare Zameen Par, a sequel of the super success Taare Zameen Par by RS Prasanna. And reportedly, Aamir is mulling over six more films that are in different stages of scripting. He is in discussions with filmmakers like Rajkumar Santoshi, Kanagaraj, and Zoya Akhtar, as he has a variety of genres and scripts to go along with the names of the people he wants to collaborate with.

Kishore Kumar’s Legacy on the Big Screen

The Kishore Kumar biopic has been a dream project in the minds and hearts of Anurag Basu and producer Bhushan Kumar for many years. The duos want to depict the life of the iconic singer on the big screen in a grand spectacle. Aamir Khan, who has also always been an admirer of Kishore Kumar, is drawn to Basu’s unique take on the biopic. What else captivated Aamir more was the filmmaker’s vision, which differentiates the project from a standard biopic.

Aamir’s Big Decision: Betting Against Market Trends

Aamir is interested, but he is not ready to take the leap. His interest is such that he wants to commit to this film, but recent market trends suggest that biopics have been failures at the box office. It can be seen in the case of Chandu Champion. Fans and insiders are of the opinion that Aamir’s decision for the same might prove to be a gamble, which could reverse the momentum of his career.

Biopic Ambitions: Will Aamir and Ranbir Finally Unite?

The first attempt had been by Anurag Basu, where he had approached Aamir and tried to cast him with Ranbir during the pandemic. Not much had progressed beyond that. This time around, both appear to be all for a collaboration, but with the stakes as high as they are due to the biopic genre’s uncertain success.

A Complex Decision-Making Journey for Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan is currently reading as many as six scripts and will only finalize three of those based on what fits into his schedule as well as creative vision. From a Ujjwal Nikam biopic, to Rajkumar Santoshi’s comedy, Ghajini 2, Lokesh Kanagaraj’s next, and Zoya Akhtar’s, all the projects are in different stages and add to the complexity of making a decision.

Setting the Bar: Aamir Khan’s Pursuit of Excellence

Aamir Khan is the stereotype of perfectionism. He does not do any film; he waits for something that suits his artistic sensibilities and expectations of people. Due to such caution, most of the times they go successful but in turn also make him cautious while getting into something new.

Mixed Reactions to Aamir's Casting

The industry has largely reacted in a mixed way to Aamir Khan playing Kishore Kumar. While one school of thought is that he will add authenticity and weightage to the biopic, another school of thought is concerned about the trend of declining biopics at the box office. Therefore, the success of this project does not lie on Aamir alone but will depend on how Basu’s vision is executed.

April 2025: A Milestone for Basu’s Projects

Apart from the biopic of Kishore Kumar, Anurag Basu is planning to work on an untitled drama with Kartik Aaryan and Triptii Dimri. This one is likely to get over by April 2025. If all goes well he would then start working on the Kishore Kumar biopic subsequently. The period will resonate well with Aamir’s approach.
